 On nearby Demen's Landing, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and the City of St. Petersburg combine in a unique joint venture operating the spacious city-owned Sailing Center with the Club responsible for staffing and management. A vital part of sailboat racing activities on the Florida Suncoast, the Center is home for nearly 50 Club owned and maintained sailboats, which include fleets of Optimist Prams, 420s, Rhodes 19s, and 10 Sonars. These are available to qualified members and their families to use at no cost.

Sixteen-year-old Harvey Parke arrived in St. Petersburg in 1919 and shortly thereafter became a charter member of the St. Petersburg Junior Yacht Club.
