The two-story Spanish style clubhouse emerged from a major renovation in May 1992. Devoted to the exclusive use of members, their guests and visiting yachtsmen, it occupies a prime downtown waterfront location, easily accessible from any part of the city.
Club docking facilities are located across the street from the main clubhouse and at the Northeast Marina on Snell Isle offering a limited number of covered slips. Transient tie-up and a fuel station at the main dock are provided for the convenience of members and guests.
On nearby Demen's Landing, the Club and the City of St. Petersburg combine in a unique joint venture operating the spacious city-owned Sailing Center with the Club responsible for staffing and management. A vital part of sailboat racing activities on the Florida Suncoast, the Center is home for nearly 50 Club owned and maintained sailboats, which include fleets of Optimist Prams, 420s, Rhodes 19s, and 10 Sonars. These are available to qualified members and their families to use at no cost.
The Center's most notable program is junior sailing with classes open to all community residents. Hundreds of youth have been introduced to the sport of sailing, and the program has regularly produced winning racing teams to compete at both national and international levels.
Members value the unique and friendly blend of social and boating enthusiasts, anchored by the Club's impressive boating history. The first Havana Race crossed the starting line in 1930. Later events included the famed Southern Ocean Racing Conference (SORC), the Lipton Cup with Fish Class sloops, and the quarter-century-old Isla Mujeres race across the Gulf of Mexico. Thistles, Lightnings, J/22s, Snipes, Stars, and other one-designs arrive from fall until spring to compete on Tampa Bay. St.Petersburg Olympic Regatta Training (SPORT), held every January, hosted over 550 sailors from 36 countries in 1995. A special privilege of membership is reciprocity with more than thirty other clubs belonging to the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs and the welcome of clubs throughout the nation and worldwide.
